Al-Fayed, who lived and worked mainly in Britain, reportedly built his empire from scratch, acquiring businesses like Harrods department store, Hotel Ritz Paris and Fulham Football Club during his lifetime.

Spectators have been closely watching the “vicious power struggle” between the four siblings, as the Evening Standard describes it, to find out what happens next.

As details continue to unfold, we take a look at one sibling who’s been no stranger to the limelight over the years, from her socialite “It” girl status to her vegan food empire – here’s a peek inside 38-year-old Camilla Fayed’s glamorous life.

Mohamed Al-Fayed had five kids: the late Dodi (with his first wife Samira Khashoggi); and Omar, Camilla, Jasmine and Karim with his second wife, Heini Wathén.

Camilla was born on February 16, 1985, in London, Britain. Although the siblings seemed close for years, Camilla was reportedly engaged in a feud with her brother, Omar.

Her luxe family life

Fayed is married to Syrian property tycoon Mohamed Esreb and has two kids, Luna, 13, and Numair, 10. According to Evening Standard, the family moved from a multimillion-dollar flat on London’s Park Lane to a massive farm in Kent, near her late dad’s 90-hectare estate.

Camilla Fayed’s vegan food empire

In 2016, Fayed opened Farmacy in Notting Hill, and it quickly became London’s buzziest vegan restaurant reportedly boasting celebrities like Madonna and Stella McCartney among its fans. Three years later, she expanded the brand with new outpost Farmacy Kitchen in Soho, New York.

Health-conscious diners at the NYC branch have reportedly included Katie Holmes and Joel Edgerton.

In 2018, Fayed told GQ that she changed her habits after growing up with “bad lifestyle choices” like eating junk food, but had a “wake-up call” after she got pregnant.

Fayed also wrote Farmacy Kitchen Cookbook in 2018, featuring plant-based recipes. According to Evening Standard, Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness company Goop has hired the Farmacy founder for its London events.

Fashion genes

Before launching her vegan food empire, Fayed dabbled in fashion. Vogue states that in 2011, she became the new chairwoman of Issa, a British-based luxury label loved by the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa.

In an interview with Evening Standard, she shared that she wanted to venture out rather than being a stay-at-home mother. “I would just be so bored,” she said. Later, in 2017, Issa was bought by House of Fraser.

In her earlier days, however, London’s “It” girl got her first job on the shop floor at Harrods, worked at British Vogue and was even an assistant to Anna Wintour in New York, per Evening Standard.

A-list circles

Fayed is no stranger to running in celebrity circles. Recent pics show her hanging out with A-listers like Pixie Lott, Whitney Port, Natalia Vodianova and Prabal Gurung.

Back in the day, especially the noughties, the socialite was spotted out and about with Elizabeth Hurley, Lindsay Lohan, Nicky and Paris Hilton, and Mischa Barton, to name a few.

High society events

Fayed has long been an “It” girl, attending the most prestigious high society events. According to Evening Standard, she grew up a rebel, from running away to the pubs during boarding school, to leaving school at 16.

Now a regular at luxury fashion shows, sitting front row for designers like Stella McCartney, Fayed continues to make plenty of public appearances.

From a 2018 Summer Party presented by Serpentine Galleries and Chanel to the “Hoping For Palestine” benefit concert for Palestinian refugee children, where she was photographed alongside Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson, Fayed continues to show her face at notable events.

Honouring Princess Diana

Fayed was just 12 years old when her brother Dodi was killed in a car accident in Paris. His girlfriend Princess Diana died later that night from her injuries. It was an event that changed the world and, undoubtedly, the Al-Fayed family. “For my dad, like any parent losing a child, it was horrific and, as it is for any family that experiences loss, it was heartbreaking,” she told The Times in 2020.

In 2010, Fayed reportedly made it her charitable mission to raise money for Princess Diana’s former school, New School at West Heath in Kent, where the people’s princess attended until she turned 16.
